The Revolve Project: Week 8 Update
Hello everyone!
Week 8 already? I've been sketching outside once a week for two months now, and I'm pretty proud of myself - just 44 weeks to go! ;-)
This week, I planned to sketch during my walk with my two dogs, Ruby and Bertie. I scoped out a few potential subjects and even set up to sketch an oak tree. However, threatening clouds and Bertie's Tasmanian Devil-like behaviour (knocking over my art supplies) forced a change of plans.
Reflecting on a conversation with
about her own Revolve project, I decided to try "zooming in" instead of my usual wide-angle approach. Nikki's been focusing on close-up detail work in her wonderful Garden Journal Updates (which you should definitely check out!), and it inspired me to look at my surroundings more closely. As I arrived home, our garden's fig tree caught my eye. With its beautiful, unruly form and waxy leaves soon to shed, it seemed the perfect subject to break away from my usual zoomed-out landscapes.
I faced some challenges with filming this week and almost didn't post a video. But remembering my sketching philosophy - "done is better than none" - I decided to edit the limited footage I had and share it anyway. Some weeks will be better than others, and the important thing is to keep the process going.
That’s all for this week, thanks for reading and watching. Do let me know if you have any tips for sketching and/or filming oneself outside!
