Revolve Project: Week 11 and 12
Hello everyone!
After a lovely holiday break in Portugal, I'm back with a two-sketch catchup! While I initially thought about sketching during my week away, I've made the conscious decision to keep this project hyper-local, focusing exclusively on my farm. (This means I had to do two sketches this week – our little secret! 😉)
Quick note: I've taken a brief hiatus from the video documentation but will resume in Week 13.
Week 11: Fighting the Grey
Coming back from sun-soaked Portugal to a dreary grey at home was... challenging. With a mountain of post-holiday tasks looming, my art practice could have easily slipped to the bottom of the priority list – as it so often does. But this project matters, so I grabbed my sketch kit and stool, and ventured out.
Without a specific destination in mind, I found attention caught by the brilliant orange of our Beech tree. Setting up at the top of our lane, I let the tree be the star. I'm particularly pleased with how leaving the lane and house white allows the painting to breathe.
Week 12: Same Tree, New Perspective
Another grey day, another deadline approaching! This morning, I returned to our lane but shifted my perspective on our orange-leafed Beech. While this scene turned out a bit more cluttered and could use more contrast, it taught me something valuable: a single location offers countless possibilities. By simply moving up, down, left, or right, I can discover entirely new compositions throughout the year.
This realisation has given me a boost of confidence for the sketches ahead!
Looking Forward
These two weeks have reinforced something important: sometimes the best sketches come from pushing through the resistance and just showing up. Whether it's grey skies or busy schedules, there's always something worth capturing if we take the time to look. Next week, I'll be back to my regular schedule, armed with my sketchbook, camera, and a renewed appreciation for my little corner of the world.
Thanks for following along on this artistic project of mine. Stay tuned for next week's update!
Happy sketching,
Emma.
