Hello everyone!
Week 15/52
As I dive deeper into my year-long plein air sketching project, I'm excited to share the latest update from week 15! When I first committed to creating an outdoor sketch every week, I knew it would be a challenge of skill, patience, and persistence. Little did I know how much I would learn with each passing week.
This week brought a beautiful sunny day – most welcome after the wind and rain of Storm Bert. I came prepared with a new tool that's already making a difference in my outdoor sketching process: a small cutting mat. If you've ever tried to balance a sketchpad, watercolours, and various art supplies on your knees while battling wind and uneven terrain, you'll understand how exciting this small improvement is!
The cutting mat provides a more stable surface for my materials. It's not perfect yet – there's still some tweaking to do – but it's worlds better than my previous precarious balancing act. Pro tip for fellow outdoor sketchers: finding the right setup can make all the difference in your comfort and creativity.
Filming continues to be a bit of an awkward challenge. I'm still working on finding that sweet spot where I can capture the process without interrupting the actual sketching. It's a delicate balance, and I'm sure many of you who create content while pursuing your craft can relate. The sketching always comes first – the documentation is secondary.
To my fellow artists and supporters: I'm always eager to learn. If you have any tips for location sketching or filming art in progress, please share them in the comments! This journey is as much about community and learning as it is about improving my art.
Thank you for following along on this creative adventure. Here's to many more weeks of outdoor sketching, learning, and growth!
