Hello!
As another grey winter afternoon drew to a close, I found myself rushing again to complete my weekly sketch for this year-long project. Taking inspiration from the overcast sky, I grabbed a selection of grey watercolour pencils – a choice that not only reflected the day's mood but simplified my process, crucial since I'd be sketching during our family dog walk!
The recently trimmed hedges along our country lanes revealed a transformed landscape. This familiar view, which I'd sketched before when the hedges stood taller, now offered a broader expanse of sky and better visibility of the trees beyond. These winter outdoor sketching sessions have helped me overcome my lack of confidence in capturing bare trees. While I'm eager to explore different techniques and styles, I'm finally finding my way in portraying these stark winter silhouettes.
Drawing Together: How Art is Brightening Our January
This month, my Mum and I also decided to start sketching together regularly to help get through dreary January! We’ve had a couple of sessions so far and it’sbecoming a lovely cosy ritual! So far we’ve been taking it in turns to meet at each other’s houses. My sister
has also been joining us when she can. We're keeping it simple and fun – capturing everyday objects from around our homes. While we plan to venture outdoors at some point, there's something rather relaxing about sitting together, sketching familiar items over friendly conversation and lunch. Last week, when I hosted, we found inspiration in pantry items and pieces from my pottery collection.
