Hello!
This week's instalment of my year-long weekly plein air project brought me back to the same field I sketched last week, but I shifted my perspective slightly to the left, drawn to the striking contrast between the hedgerow and our bird-friendly winter crop. Beyond the hedge, an old barn and house added architectural interest to the rural scene.
Given the cold conditions and remnants of last night's light snowfall, I packed light: just my watercolours, three watercolour pencils, and a couple of regular colour pencils. Though the day was bright, the chill encouraged quick work. I focused on adding colour and experimenting with mark-making, though I'll admit I wasn't entirely satisfied with the final result. On a warmer day, I might have attempted a second version, but the cold drove me inside – sometimes that's just how it goes with plein air work!
Just a quick update for this week - I plan to share another post in the coming days with a very overdue share of some recent sketchbook work, and some plans I have for creative projects this year.
I hope you’re all doing well :)
With gratitude, Emma
