Hello fellow sketchers!
I can’t believe we are over half way through August. Time is flying. There is definitely a more autumnal air about - especially with the evenings now drawing in. I do love Autumn, but I dread the long UK Winter!
Postcards of Summer Challenge
The "Postcards of Summer" challenge continues over at The Sketching Sisters (another substack publication I write with my sister,
). I am now up to day 21 in the 31 summer prompts - here’s a quick video showing 10 to 21!5 minute Sketch Journaling
I am also keeping up with my five minute sketch journal - I pick a photo of my day and quickly sketch it in the evening, or the following morning. I love how this is keeping a visual diary of my summer, without being time consuming or precious.

Revolve Project - Week 2
Week two of my new project set up by Worcester Arts Collective called "Revolve" - challenging myself to create a small A6 piece of art every week. As I introduced last week, I will be making these works entirely on location, using minimal supplies. The goal is to help me establish a regular sketching practise outside on location, and to document a year in nature. Each piece will be a snapshot of a moment in time, captured in the open air with whatever the landscape has to offer.
I made a little video of my sketch last week, and have posted below - apologies for the poor sound. I need to work on improving my video making, as well as plein air sketching, so hopefully by filming this process each week, I might improve both!
I hope you've enjoyed following along with this week’s sketching practice. Looking ahead to next week, I'm excited to continue experimenting with new techniques, subjects, and mediums in my sketches. There's always so much more to learn and discover!
Thank you for reading - and happy sketching!
