Hello fellow sketchers!
I hope you’re all well. It's been an exciting week full of new projects and autumn-inspired sketches.
1. Daily Sketch Journal: A New Adventure
This week, I started a new small-format sketch journal, perfect for quick, easy, and less intimidating daily practice. This approach is ideal for maintaining consistency and building a daily sketching habit.
and I had a catch up on Thursday and had a good chat about our current daily sketchbook not really exciting or working for us, so we both decided to just start a new one - have a look at our latest post to listen to our chat. Some snippets from my little daily sketch journal - Top left: Moonslade field bird friendly seed crop fading from green to yellow. Top right - I designed a new logo for myself! Bottom left - a new art toy, a view finder… hoping this will help with my plein air sketching to help me frame a scene without feeling overwhelmed! Bottom right - one of my fave mugs :)
Because it’s such a small sketchbook (8x8cm) I am tending to sketch on one page, and write a few bits on the other if I feel like it. Sometimes it’s just a sketch though!
2. Revolve Project: Week 7 Sneak Peek
This week's plein air sketch had me venturing out onto the farm to sketch in the sunshine, yay! I've been enjoying capturing Autumn in my sketches, especially for my weekly venture outside for this project. Stay tuned for a more in-depth post about this project coming out on Wednesday!
3. Weekly Sketching Roundup
I must admit, I am feeling a bit lost/overwhelmed with all the projects and ideas running around in my head at the moment. At times it feels like I haven’t achieved or progressed with anything, but then I sit down and I have a look through my sketchbooks to see what I can share in my weekly roundup, and I realise I have created far more than I think I have!
A few of my fave sketches from the week, starting with my Doc Martens as I dust them off for Autumn!
Joined forces with Nikki from The Sketching Sisters for some quick autumn-themed sketches. It was a blast! You can watch our sketching session over here on our Sketching Sisters substack
Artist in Residence Class: Every Sunday, I host an hour long drawing session called ‘Sketchbook Adventure’ where we do timed sketches of landscapes, flora and fauna from reference photos I curate from Unsplash. This week, I changed it up with a challenging "8 Portraits in 1 Hour" session to help members complete a portrait challenge by one of our lovely instructors, Linda Konya . Talk about a workout for the sketching muscles! It was great fun, and although my sketches weren’t perfect, it was a great exercise in practising the tricky art of portraiture!
4. Introducing my Teeny Tiny Sketchbook
Because you can never have too many sketchbooks on the go, I've started a teeny tiny one dedicated to capturing the little things on my desk. It's amazing how fun and interesting everyday objects become when we take the time to really look, and I think this little sketchbook will be fun to fill!
How many sketchbooks do you have on the go? Or do you prefer to do everything in one sketchbook?
